They were highly valued in African trade, sometimes used for their supposed protective powers. These are antique as they exhibit the natural pitting and small nicks consistent with their age…likely from the 1800s. The strand consists of 28 beads of varying cylindrical shapes. The necklace weighs 97 g. Most of the beads are somewhat translucent (see the last photo).
